Here's the story: so we get up and go down to the lobby around 730 and leave shortly after with our driver. Since I didn't think it would be that long of a trip I was on my phone most of the ride there. The trip to the markets ended up taking OVER 3 HOURS! There was some traffic but still nowhere near two hours of it! But whatever we were there and were greeted with some free coconuts to drink.
I already knew I didn't like the taste because I had it before in Puerto Rico but I drank some any way. I guess they wanted to give you something free before they screwed you because the next thing we know they say we have to PAY $90 DOLLARS to see the floating market! WOAH WOAH WOAH we already paid $150 for the 'tour' and now they wanted $90?!?! I was livid. We went to talk to our driver and he said that the $150 was just for the ride to the places...wow, did I mention this was a complete scam? I was ready to leave even though it took forever to get there but my dad decided that we might as well do it since we were there anyway. Of course they didn't have an ATM or anything so we literally had to use all of our cash to pay for it.
The floating markets themselves were cool, but definitely not worth $90. For the price you got a small boat that drove you around through the markets where they would try to get you to buy their crap. I was so mad at this point and we didn't have any money anyway so I just starred all of the shopkeepers down and gave them the meanest looks I could :P.
The boat ride was an hour and 20 minutes long and it wasn't even much of a tour, the boat driver just drove us around in silence. So if you ever go to Thailand I wouldn't recommend wasting your time to see it. It was also very touristy.
Once we got back we were visibly mad and I think our driver could tell because he didn't talk the rest of the trip. We got back into the car and headed to our next stop, the bridge over river Kwai. This was supposed to be a half hour trip... It took 2 HOURS! This was getting ridiculous, but at least we didn't have to pay any money to see the bridge. For those who don't know there's a movie about the bridge and I'm sure you've heard the song they whistle. But basically they had British soldiers prison and made them build the bridge which they later blew up as a Japanese train was crossing with weapons and ammunition.
The bridge was cool because of the history but in the end it was just a bridge nothing super cool about it. It obviously wasn't the original either since that one was blow up. It definitely was not worth the time it took to drive there though!
Looking and walking around the bridge took about 20 minutes. There was also a mueseum there that we decided to stop in which was pretty interesting. We spent maybe an hour total there and decided to head home.
What we didn't know is that the 2 hour trip home would end up taking 4 HOURS!! My phone was dead at this point so I was bored out of my mind! We spent OVER 9 HOURS DRIVING!! While only spending maybe 3 hours at the markets and bridge, definitely NOT WORTH IT...did I mention already I'm not letting my dad book a tour until I find out all of the details first!
Once we got back all we could do was laugh, the only food we had was a burger from the dollar menu at mcdonalds that our driver bought us, I think he might have felt bad since when he asked us if we wanted to go to lunch we just kept telling him we didn't have any money left!
Thankful to finally be back at the hotel we decided to screw it and just eat at the hotel restaurant which was a little expensive but we weren't about to walk around looking for a place. I had a big bacon cheese burger with fries, it was delicious!
Afterwards we went back to the room and passed out. It was an exhausting day! Tomorrow we have nothing plan so I hope to relax and explore a little.
