Day 13 - Bussing to Vang Vieng

Today we woke up early and had breakfast. We got a tuk-tuk to the southern bus station around 9. For those that don't know a tuk-tuk is basically a motorcycle turned into a car. It's hard to explain but here's a picture of the one we took.

They are tiny! Thankfully it was only a 10min ride to the bus station. We got on the bus around 930. The bus was pretty much full but there was an open row in the back where my dad moved to for more legroom which gave me two seats to myself which was awesome. The bus ride took 6 hours with two stops. Basically the whole way was through the mountains which made for some awesome views of the landscape.

The pictures don't do it justice. One of the stops we were given some soup witch was pretty delicious. The bathrooms at the stop were definitely lacking however. They were basically a hole in the ground and you had to pour a bucket of water down when you finished, all I can say is that I'm glad I'm a guy!

We finally arrived in vang Vieng around 430 where we took a tuk-tuk to our hotel. We booked a hot air balloon ride for tomorrow morning and a dirt bike ride for Thursday so were gunna be pretty busy! After that we walked around the town and found a place to eat at on the river with some incredible views and inexpensive food.

-View from out table...doesn't give it justice

My dad had the garlic steak and a beer while I had the Lao steak and a strawberry smoothie. It was delicious and only cost is about $12...total, gotta love the exchange rate!

After dinner we stopped at the ATM and walked around town some more before heading back to the hotel. We leave at 6am tomorrow for the hot air balloon ride so well be up early again!
