Day 4 - Ha Long Bay Trip

Day 4 was another early start, we had to be up for a 4 hour bus and boat trip to get to our final destination, Cat Ba Island. After breakfast we took a quick taxi ride to the bus station to start our trip. The bus was much nicer than I expected and was only about half full (winter is the slow season for tourism). The bus took us to this huge industrial port with shipping containers everywhere and we boarded the speedboat. The boat ride was nice and only took 30-45min to get to the island. One last bus to the main town and we were at our hotel. The hotel was very nice and right in the center of the town. After getting settled in we are some lunch and decided to rent motorbikes.

The motorbikes were awesome! They only cost 4 dollars to rent for the day and about 2-3 dollars in gas. There was no paperwork to sign or anything, the guy renting them to us didn't even get our names! Needless to say it was much less strict than the US. Anyway the first stop we made was cannon fort which had awesome views of the island.

The views were amazing and the weather was much nicer than the cloudy and foggy weather we had in Hanoi up to this point. After the fort we made our way to the main road to go visit hospital cave. This was in the middle of the island and is literally a hospital type bunker that was built inside a cave during the war.

After we left the cave we drove around some more on the motorbikes and made our way to the three closest beaches on the island. Since it isn't particularly sunny or warm this time of year not many people visit some the beaches were empty with almost no one in the water.

After the beaches we biked some more around the island until dinner which we had at My Way Cafe. I had shrimp and rice which was delicious, and as allways everything was very inexpensive. After dinner we made our way back to the hotel to sleep.
